Design Appreciation

Well designed products

I think that this is a good design because it looks nice and there is no blade to cut anybody. It s not so dangerous.

I think that this is a good design because it looks cool and it uses solar energy to charge phones and electronic product inside.

Poorly designed products

I think that this is a bad design because the heel of the person wearing it will be pressing down. For me, I find it very unstable.

I think that this is a bad design because it does not look very nice to me. It will also be very uncomfortable to hold as there are things sticking out. I will find it uncomfortable.

Sketching with Rubrics

Nike Water Bottle

Knowing the rubrics gives me a target, so I will be able to have a better drawing. It also tells if my drawing is acceptable or not.

Ideation

Shape borrowing
    Shape borrowing is borrowing the shape of another object to get a new object in the shape of the other object. An example is this. An apple is round and it borrows the shape of a pear, so the apple becomes the shape of a pear. Using shape borrowing, we can make new products by having products that work the same but of different shape. Example, a perfume bottle, which is originally round, borrows the shape of a heart shape, so the final product of the perfume will be heart shaped, but it still works the same as the round one.
S.C.A.M.P.E.R
    S.C.A.M.P.E.R is based on the notion that everything new is a modification of something that already exists. Each letter represents a different thing.
S= Substitute
C= Combine
A= Adapt
M= Modify
P= Put to other uses
E= Eliminate
R= Rearrange/ reverse
    Using this techniques, we can refine the uses and appearance of an object. We will use the letter 'E', which means eliminate, to do that. By eliminating things from a product, its uses will be refined as the useless part of the product is gone. Example, if a MacBook sleeve is made bigger than the MacBook to be able to put books, paper and files inside, it might not be applicable to certain people. If some one bought that sleeve because he needed to put some paper in, and the next day he doesn't, the sleeve will be too big for the MacBook and the MacBook will tend to slide around. That will make it more possible for the MacBook to drop, so by eliminating those uses, the sleeve might be more suitable to people  Also the product might have some unwanted 'features', so by eliminating those 'features' the product might be wanted by customers. Example, there is a cloth that s too fanciful that it does not work very well. If we eliminate some of those fanciness, it might work better and more people might like and buy it.
